As part of the NewSkin OITB final events series 2024, the NewSkin OITB team co-hosted a booth at Battery Innovation Days 2024 - last week in BARCELONA (and online) joining leading policymakers, scientists and industry representatives to discuss the future of battery R&I in Europe! Thank you to all the visitors to our booth!

NewSkin OITB is a European-funded Open Innovation Test Bed (OITB) and includes a consortium of 34 European entities (including: industrial associations, companies, research centres, and universities) and a growing innovation ecosystem. The main goal of the NewSkin OITB is to enable manufacturing companies to apply innovative surface treatments that enhance the physical and mechanical performance of their components. NewSkin OITB was represented by partners from European Cluster of Ceramics and the European Convention for Constructional Steelwork (ECCS) (under the European Cluster of Ceramics booth see exhibitors info here).

NewSkin OITB brings into reach of the Energy Storage Ecosystem unique capabilities for :
• Textures and coating of electrodes, separators and current collectors.
• Electrodes formulation.
• Textures and materials for heat dissipation.
• Active layers deposition.

Battery Innovation Days 2024 (BID2024) took place on 26-27 November 2024 in Barcelona, Spain (and online). It included two days of discussion, interaction, and networking among key research community, policymakers, industry players and end-users aiming to boost European battery research and innovation. BID aims to increase knowledge and encourage exchange of cutting-edge technologies in battery materials, cell design, manufacturing, and recycling. BID2024 was organised by key European Research & Innovation initiatives (Batteries Europe, Battery 2030+ and the Batteries European Partnership Association) in partnership with the Batteries 1st and 2nd IPCEIs.

NewSkin services include access* to 10 upscaling and 9 testing facilities across Europe, and route-to-market services (including Life Cycle Analysis, nano safety assessment, business planning, and networking) to accelerate novel nano-surface and membrane technology to market.

BID attendees were encouraged to connect with our NewSkin OITB ecosystem, to openly discuss how our technologies and services portfolio may help to improve their business. It was an excellent opportunity to discuss the nanotechnologies link with batteries. The following five posters were presented including the project (Poster 1), its services (Poster 2), NewSkin facilities and associated benefits for Battery applications (Poster 3), alongside NewSkin partner/facility user work on separators for Li-Metal batteries (Poster 4). on laser texturing of charge collectors could help to improve cyclability and ionic exchange in batteries (Poster 5), and Carbon Waters work on graphene dispersions used in anode slurries that have improved batteries performances.
