SIRRIS' Value Proposition

Sirris is the collective centre for and by the technological industry. We offer companies three key assets to help them remain innovative: years of experience and comprehensive expertise in a wide range of industries; high-tech testing infrastructure spread across the country; and an extensive network of partners. This way we help large and smaller players in industry make the right technological choices and achieve sustainable economic growth. Within the Newskin-project, 2 labs of Sirris are involved. The OWI-lab specialized in wind energy, performs research and provides services in particularly in condition monitoring in harsh conditions and in climate chamber testing of large components. The Sirris Coating Lab is specialized in development, modification, and deposition and testing of functional and smart coatings on industrial products in real applications and harsh environments. In the framework of the NewSkin project, Sirris develops a testing facility for large scale icing tests. This facility will be able to test coatings on complex shapes and characterise anti-icing surfaces in their actual operational conditions. Applications will be available for industrial sectors such as renewable energies, aeronautics and others. Dublin City University's Value Proposition

The Dublin City University is involved as a partner in the NewSkin project and is responsible for the development and optimization of laser machining techniques for micro-texturing surfaces and membranes. In this Value Proposition, DCU is introducing its competences in laser processing and its multiple applications. Three specific use cases are presented:

Micro- and nano-structuring of membranes

Bi-modal laser hardening and texturing.

LEITAT's Value Proposition: Surface modification of membranes by Atmospheric Pressure Glow Discharge and functional finishing processes

LEITAT is a Technological Centre that undertakes R&D activities in the areas of materials sciences, environment, surface treatments, biotechnologies and renewable energies with deep knowledge and experience in technological transfers to several industrial sectors. In this second value proposition, LEITAT introduces the development of two NewSkin upscaling facilities:

Atmospheric Pressure Glow Discharge (APGD) technology for surface preparation and the modification of membranes

Functional finishing technology for surface modification of membranes.

LUH's Value Proposition

The Institute for Steel Construction from the Leibniz University of Hannover is a partner of the NewSkin project. It has and extensive experience in developing testing facilities such as large scale fatigue tests, servo-hydraulic systems and other measuring devices. In the framework of the NewSkin project, LUH will develop a Test bed for corrosion and mechanical performance of large sized bolted connections and steel structures. This facility will allow to determine corrosion fatigue performance, evaluate new protection systems and determine optimal coatings. ITA's value proposition

ITA is a non-profit technology centre structured into different technological areas: Materials & Components, Mechatronics & Robotics, Power Electronics, Logistics, Software Engineering and Multimedia technologies. In the NewSkin project, ITA will be responsible for the characterization of nano-coatings in terms of adhesion and friction for manufacturing as well as the optimization of TDM in the materials for different texturing processes. Technion's Value Proposition

The Department of Chemical Engineering from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology is involved as a partner in the NewSkin project. As such, they will offer a set of services focusing on membranes technologies and materials. In their Value Proposition, they introduce their facilities for testing performance of membranes with novel coatings and components in operational environments. Their services include the evaluation of membranes in short (permeability and selectivity) and extended tests (fouling and scaling) as well as surface and structural characterisations of membranes. In addition, Technion will use their facilities and expertise to offer modelling services to analyse potential membranes structures and their efficiency in different environments. AIMEN's Value Proposition

AIMEN is a research centre based in Spain close to Vigo. Uppsala University's Value Proposition

The Ångström Laboratory from the Department of Engineering Sciences of the University of Uppsala is working on the upscaling of the HiPIMS technology for oxides thin films in the framework of the NewSkin project. Applications are possible for small scale surfaces of different materials such as metals, ceramics, glasses or polymers. In addition, the HiPIMS technology of the laboratory can be used on large scale surfaces of foils. This technology can bring the following effects on the surfaces : anti-sticking, self-cleaning, anti-corrosion, anti-UV or anti-bacterial. ML Engraving's value proposition

ML Engraving is the first Italian Company in laser engraving and laser texturing on moulds. NewSkin Surface Texturing Value Propositions. Automotive and General Industry

This value proposition introduces the current progresses of NewSkin's partners developing Upscaling and Testing Facilities. It includes a description of the Texturing During Moulding technology, the HiPIMS technology, different coatings (MoSx-WC, CrAlN, DLC), tribological testing facilities and test rigs to demonstrate the performance of surface textured components.
